Fact: Formal implementation of the Australian Curriculum commenced in July 2012

Fact: The Australian Curriculum does not include information about pedagogy and practice; but we do… and we can!

The Union is providing practical support for members: to manage the change, to minimise workload, and to enjoy the professional decision making opportunities.

  • Provide quality professional development that matches the implementation phase of your school and/or learning area
  • Engage you in valid, interactive and practical knowledge building forums
  • Explore the Australian Curriculum as you build a bank of strategies and resources for planning, teaching and assessment; specific to your learning area
  • Promote best practice and pedagogy including concept driven inquiry, and differentiated learning for special needs students, and gifted and talented learners
  • Strategize for change management in the workplace in areas such as structures, processes and reporting
  • Develop and utilise technology to enable flexible learning and alternative modes of delivery

Professional learning programs have been designed for primary and secondary teachers, and curriculum leaders / administrators.

All teachers will achieve the following outcomes:

  • An understanding of the Australian Curriculum structure and accountability requirements
  • Access to sequenced programmes to meet the accountability requirements.
  • Choose and adapt classroom ready ‘Teaching units’ with teaching notes, student learning activities, assessment tasks, and targeted online resources.
  • Build personal capacity to use ICT for planning – teaching – learning, including use of computers and Ipads in classrooms.

Secondary Teachers will also have dedicated subject workshops for: English, Mathematics, Science, History / SOSE – that link existing programmes to the Australian Curriculum.

Curriculum leaders can adopt a whole of school approach with dedicated software that provides fast, efficient and effective processes for: communication, planning, assessment, sharing, and accountability.

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING OPTIONS

  • 1. Within school PD – ongoing rotating groups + after school workshops.
  • 2. Full day and half day courses at the Union.

A TEAM OF SPECIALLY TRAINED PROFESSIONAL EDUCATORS WILL DELIVER TARGETED PD FOR YOUR SPECIFIC NEEDS/SUBJECT AREA.
