Welcome to the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Education Website

Aboriginal EducationThe SSTUWA Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Committee (ATSIEC) provides advice to the Union Executive on Indigenous education issues that affect teachers and administrators in schools and education offices in WA government schools.

Nominations for the Committee are called for at the beginning of each year. Meetings occur at least once each term.

WELCOME TO COUNTRY AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY PROTOCOL

SSTUWA State Council has endorsed a “Welcome to Country and Acknowledgement of Country” protocol for use at the commencement of all Union forums. The protocol appears below. Union members are encouraged to apply the protocol at the start of all Union meetings and functions. Union members are also requested to encourage the use of the protocol in other forums, wherever possible.

Public schools are a foundation stone of our society. They are places of learning, of inspiration and opportunity where every Australian child can get the education they deserve.  It's the key to a strong economy, a skilled workforce and a socially cohesive society.

Save Our Schools

Public education should be free and open to all to ensure non-selective and non-discriminatory access to a high quality education. Every child has a right to be educated; to develop as a human being. This basic capability should not be denied to anyone, either by design, apathy or neglect.
