Dear Union Reps/ Workplace Reps

Federal Schools Funding
Yesterday the Federal Government released the Report from the Gonski Review into schools funding. It has identified a $5b hole in education expenditure including $3.8b per year into public schools. The SSTUWA along with other public schools teacher unions and parent groups welcome the prospect of a new, more transparent and fairer funding model. Further details will be provided in next week’s e-stream. The need for advocacy continues if we are to take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity. It is our view that the Gillard Government does need to ‘review the review’ but to get on with implementation.

2011 Log of Claims [Schools]
See attached notices for information forums being run after school. Please note the first pay increase under the proposed Agreement came into the December 20 2011 pay period. This increase in pay will continue until the next agreed increase is due. See attached notices for after school information forums.

How To Vote Information
It has come to the attention of the SSTUWA that an email communication titled “Vote NO to the Agreement in Principle” is being circulated to members.

The following information is provided to correct some of the inaccuracies and provide clarification:

  1. The SSTUWA negotiating team consisted of Anne Gisborne (President), Pat Byrne (VP), Tony Mullen (General Secretary) and Geoff Bunn (Executive). All union negotiators support the Agreement In Principle (AIP).
  2. Executive endorsed the AIP at a meeting on 8/12/11 and directed that the AIP be put to members for their decision in term 1 2012.
  3. A full schedule of briefing sessions is currently underway in schools across the state with a voting process scheduled for weeks 6 and 7 in term 1.
  4. Explanatory notes and a pod cast are available on the website.
  5. The flyer being circulated is not endorsed by our union.

2011 Log of Claims [TAFE]
The final draft of the proposed replacement Agreement will be examined during the next week. TAFE Committee and Executive will have to formally endorse the document prior to voting. A voting period of four (4) weeks will be held with a ballot being sent out from the WAEC. When dates are formalised TAFE members will be advised. Please note, pay increases will be retrospective and commence after the registration process is completed.

Yours sincerely
Anne Gisborne
President

No WorkChoices WA

Troy Buswell and the State Government have appointed a former Howard Government industrial relations advocate to review Western Australian workplace laws and will soon announce changes that could affect up to 300,000 Western Australian workers' jobs and livelihoods.

For Our Future

Public schools are a foundation stone of our society. They are places of learning, of inspiration and opportunity where every Australian child can get the education they deserve.  It's the key to a strong economy, a skilled workforce and a socially cohesive society.

Save Our Schools

Public education should be free and open to all to ensure non-selective and non-discriminatory access to a high quality education. Every child has a right to be educated; to develop as a human being. This basic capability should not be denied to anyone, either by design, apathy or neglect.
