TAFE FUNDING
TAFE members met in Canberra in late February to consider the growing and negative impact of the ‘competitive funding model’ in the VET / TAFE sector. Time was taken to lobbying Federal politicians on this matter. Members are urged to read the article on this issue in the March edition of the Western Teacher by Executive member and TAFE Committee member Colleen Mack.

TAFE Committee endorsed a resolution at the February TAFE Committee to bring a report back to TAFE Committee along with a series of recommendations to drive a campaign on TAFE funding in W.A.

This is an issue which is about access and equity for all young people and those
seeking to change career. We have a constant stream of complaints about the
need for skilled workers in W.A. We have young people without access to
apprenticeships. We have a UnionsWA campaign on support for local industry and
manufacturing. The current arrangements for funding are putting at risk the
work opportunities for young people and other workers in our community. When
the campaign is framed up we will be looking to all members for support.

Yours
sincerely
