Senior Teacher Eligibility

sstuwa-mario-new-memberRequirement for teachers who were at 2.8 last year to have to do 12 months at 2.9  as part of their eligibility for Senior Teacher Status.

We have had many enquiries on this issue. Teachers will have to complete 12 months at 2.9 to be eligible for senior teacher status.

However, the following should be borne in mind:

The introduction of the 2.9 increment coincides with the compaction of the Senior Teacher incremental salary scale whereby there is no longer an ST1 increment and an ST2 increment but a single increment equivalent to ST2.

ST1 has been removed and been replaced by 2.9  which is the  equivalent salary of the old ST1

This means that teachers at 2.9  are now accessing the equivalent of ST1 (pay rises included) without having to take on additional duties or complete the PD modules required for Senior Teacher Status.

When teachers gain Senior Teacher status they will go onto the equivalent salary  of  the old ST2.

From a salary point of view, teachers have not been disadvantaged by these changes. That is to say, if nothing had changed, teachers who had completed the required PD would now be on ST1 and  receiving a salary equivalent to 2.9.

Teachers  who have already completed the PD modules whilst  on 2.8 simply need to resubmit an application once they have completed 12 months at 2.9. There is no need for them to redo the PD  modules.

No WorkChoices WA

Troy Buswell and the State Government have appointed a former Howard Government industrial relations advocate to review Western Australian workplace laws and will soon announce changes that could affect up to 300,000 Western Australian workers' jobs and livelihoods.

For Our Future

Public schools are a foundation stone of our society. They are places of learning, of inspiration and opportunity where every Australian child can get the education they deserve.  It's the key to a strong economy, a skilled workforce and a socially cohesive society.

Save Our Schools

Public education should be free and open to all to ensure non-selective and non-discriminatory access to a high quality education. Every child has a right to be educated; to develop as a human being. This basic capability should not be denied to anyone, either by design, apathy or neglect.
