Minister Garrett received the final report from the Review Panel on 20 December 2011.
The Minister has advised that the report will be available along with information on how comment can be made on the Final Report.
The SSTUWA continues to work with state and national parent groups, principals' associations, teacher unions and other supporters of public education to ensure that the Gillard Government responds to this report in a way that delivers a message to the community as to the importance and value of public education as a fundamental cornerstone of Australian society. Further, that it backs up this position by rectifying what is clearly a faulty funding system.
We will see the launch of the 2012 Campaign in Brisbane on Monday 6 February with TV advertising in all national cities.
This campaign will continue for two weeks. It will be supplemented by other more targeted advertising in regional areas and on local programs.
A number of women's magazines will also carry advertising.
We urge you to draw attention to this advertising with colleagues, in your school community and amongst family and friends.
Use it to raise awareness and tap into support for our campaign.
Encourage registration on the website www.forourfuture.org.au.
In each state and territory a number of federal seats have been targeted for further attention. In W.A. we will be working more intensely in Brand, Canning, Hasluck and Swan.
Schools in these electorates will receive corflutes early in the New Year – 'The best place to invest in our future? Our public schools'.
Union reps are asked to ensure they are displayed prominently in a public place.
Other materials to be distributed to support this important campaign include post cards and bumper stickers.
Advertising in local newspapers will be inserted in target electorates.
AEU President Angelo Gavrielatos will be visiting marginal seats in every state and territory.
He will be in W.A. on Tuesday 7 March. Members in the target seats will soon be advised of activities and how we can all step up to support this extremely important campaign.
I remind you the last Federal funding model lasted for 30 years ... if we do not get it right this time we will see a further widening of the gap in Australian education, largely along social and religious lines.
As a purportedly proudly egalitarian and democratic society we can't afford to let this political moment slip through our fingers.
If we do not take the time to join this campaign actively and loudly, if we do not make it clear we expect a positive and constructive outcome for our public schools, we will have missed a once in a lifetime opportunity ... and be partly responsible for the outcome. 70% of students and over 70% of education workers are in public schools ... that is enormous electoral clout.
THE MESSAGING TO JULIA GILLARD, PETER GARRETT AND THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE AND CAN BE STRONG AND CLEAR!
A 'kit of fact sheets' will be coming to your worksite shortly... Please use it as requested and help us to help you with a better resourcing model.
