Climate Change Rally: 'Say Yes Australia'

say-yes-to-climate-change-actionThe Australian Council of Trade Unions, with environmental groups in the Price on Pollution 2011 (POP11) coalition, have launched the ‘Say Yes Australia’ national week of action.

Our involvement with Say Yes Australia complements the ongoing policy work and negotiations with government that unions are doing to ensure that the final design of a price on pollution includes support for emission-intensive and trade-exposed industries; measures to protect existing jobs; programs to attract investment in clean energy and production; and assistance to households.

The Say Yes Australia campaign has been launched on behalf of the broad majority of Australians who support the government's proposed price on pollution and action on climate change.

The national week of action is also a response to the fierce scare campaign by the Liberals against the government's moves to tackle climate change, which has drowned out sensible public debate. It's vital that there is a response to the overwhelming negativity and misinformation surrounding the issue.

The national week of action begins on May 30 and concludes June 5.

During the national week of action, environmental groups and participating unions will be undertaking a range of activities. These are predominantly centered around local areas and regions, and include activities like street stalls, letterbox drops, shopping centre visits, leafleting, meet-ups etc.

The week will conclude with rallies in Australia's capital cities on June 5. Perth will host a rally beginning at 11am At The Perth Cultural Centre "Wetlands Stage".

To support the promotion of Say Yes Australia and the rallies on June 5 a range of materials have been developed.

No WorkChoices WA

Troy Buswell and the State Government have appointed a former Howard Government industrial relations advocate to review Western Australian workplace laws and will soon announce changes that could affect up to 300,000 Western Australian workers' jobs and livelihoods.

For Our Future

Public schools are a foundation stone of our society. They are places of learning, of inspiration and opportunity where every Australian child can get the education they deserve.  It's the key to a strong economy, a skilled workforce and a socially cohesive society.

Save Our Schools

Public education should be free and open to all to ensure non-selective and non-discriminatory access to a high quality education. Every child has a right to be educated; to develop as a human being. This basic capability should not be denied to anyone, either by design, apathy or neglect.
