Early Childhood
All members of the ECE reference Group are encouraged to log onto the SSTUWA Union website and explore the ECE designated forums, chat room, links, events and surveys.We have created our own online group forum where Early Childhood educators can network and support one another. Please log into the site to join the Early Childhood Reference Online Group.
The Early Childhood Reference Group has been convened to
- Engage Early Childhood Educators on a regular basis through meetings, and the website.
- To inform and provide opportunities for ECE specific training and forums.
- To promote and encourage dialogue and networking opportunities for ECE
- To actively encourage dialogue between the department and the Reference Group to improve and extend conditions.
- To inform negotiators working on our pay and conditions to include early Childhood specific clauses that address identified concerns in the area of early childhood.
- To collect data pertaining to early childhood educators and further the knowledge and understanding of this particular area of education.
- To advocate and educate fellow educators, politicians and the public in general about what is best practise and what constitutes a sound learning environment for young children.
This has been specifically set up for all early childhood educators who are interested in the latest trends and news, getting in touch with colleagues and discovering some topical links that might be useful.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
- To engage Early Childhood Educators in meaningful and pertinent dialogue
- To broaden the membership of the reference Group and the Union
- To facilitate and offer members training and professional development particular to the needs of early Childhood Educators
- To encourage members to become actively engaged in advocacy for Early Childhood Education in this political environment both at a state and federal level
- To encourage dialogue and feedback from members with the Union via meetings, magazine, website and Forums
- To hold an annual ECE Forum or Conference that provides Reference Group members with up to date and pertinent information about early childhood trends and practices
- To identify industrial issues and bring them to the attention of the Union negotiators and to influence the teachers agreement and our working conditions
- To provide opportunities for members of the Reference Group to be informed and engaged at all levels of decision making to build and develop the best and most appropriate education for early learners

Meetings take place at the SSTUWA Union Office in the small meeting room. 15 – 22 Adelaide Terrace, PERTH. Meetings begin at 4.30 and teleconferencing is available. If using the teleconference facilities is required, booking is required beforehand, please contact the office
- Parking is available in the Union car park, situated behind the office
- Child care is also available by prior arrangement
- Minutes of meetings are available to you by email, also upon request
