EBA 20008 Update

The Union has been informed that DET are going to file for a cessation of the ‘bargaining period’, for a new agreement, and a move to arbitration by the Western Australian Industrial Relations Commission.

The SSTUWA Executive at its last meeting has placed a ban on members participating in the NAPLAN Testing in May. Further information can be obtained through sent fax streams and the SSTU website.

MAYDAY Fair & March Date:

SUNDAY 4th MAY 12 noon Venue: Fremantle, Esplanade A great day out for the family. It is a chance to show our strength and let the government know we still want improved pay and conditions.

Paid Parental Leave

From the 1 July 2008 an employee identified as the primary care giver of a child, who has completed twelve (12) months continuous service in the Western Australian public sector, shall be entitled to fourteen (14) weeks paid parental leave.

A new member benefits booklet for Union members is presently at the printers. Benefits, including those that are new are
available on the union website, under the member benefits section.

Teachers can now access a range of teaching material on human rights from HREOC's New Information for Teachers section.

Regularly updated, it includes activities on current human rights issues, with a new issue each month. The section also contains:
  • links to external human rights resources for teachers
  • Youth Challenge and other education modules; and
  • General resources on human rights education, including links with curriculum in each State and Territory
Training Opportunities
All below listed training is TUTA accredited. Each union member is entitled to 5 days of TUTA leave for training per year. Level 1 Union Training:
As the SSTUWA Women’s Contact officer you may be members’ first point of contact with their Union. This course is held in various country areas.
Refer to the Education & Training, industrial education section for details of venues and times.

Part-time Working and Job-Share policy

An employee who was working part-time prior to 27 January 2005 when the policy came into effect, may continue the part-time arrangement up until 27 January 2009 before a decision must be made to resume the substantive FTE or permanently increase or decrease their work fraction.

Employees who commenced a part-time arrangement after 27 January 2005 may continue this arrangement for two years before a decision must be made to revert to their substantive FTE or permanently increase or decrease their work fraction.

The Mothers Day Classic
This is a national walk or run that raises money for breast cancer research, is on again and will be held on Sunday 11 May.
