The Western Australian theme, WA Equal Opportunity Commission (EOC), for International Women’s Day 2013 is “Gaining Momentum: the gender agenda"
Celebrated on Thursday 8th March IWD is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women in the past, present and future.
The day is celebrated globally each year and is an opportunity for the community to recognise the achievements of women, past, present and future, and to highlight their economic, political and social contributions to society
It is a day when women are recognised for their achievements, regardless of divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political.
The EOC is holding an IWD Breakfast on the 8th March at Perth’s Parmelia Hilton hotel where a panel of experts will discuss domestic and family violence in a presentation themed:
Angela Hartwig (CEO Women’s Council For Domestic & Family Violence Services), Robert Andrew (Relationships WA Manager Domestic Violence Services & counsellor) and domestic violence survivor Angela Russo speak about the critical issue of domestic violence.
As IWD is the day before the state election, the UnionsWA event will be held the following week. UnionsWA is partnering with Slater & Gordon to hold a ‘Women in Politics’ sundowner on the evening of Thursday 14 March, 5:30 – 7:00 pm. Please mark the date in your diary.
