Developing tomorrow's leaders

A series of  three full-day forums are offered to  classroom teachers looking to move into any school leadership role the future.  If you are considering moving into a new role or postion such as a  Level 3 CRT, HOD, HOLA, Curriculum Leader, Program Coordinator or Deputy, then these events are for you.

The forums will provide aspiring leaders the opportunity to build the skills, knowledge and understandings essential  to successfully work in, and build  collaborative organisations across a school setting.

You can attend one,  two or all three connected forums.

Forum One: Friday  10 March
Using Emotional Intelligence to Build Your Own Resilience and Support Others -  Ian Crosby, PDT Consultancy.

Forum Two:     Friday 12 May          
Dealing with Reactions to Change in Schools and Giving & Receiving Feedback - Vanessa Herbert, PDT Consultancy.

Forum One: Using Emotional Intelligence to Build Your Own Resilience and Support Others


This one day forum will extend participants’ understanding of emotional intelligence and its application to and implications for:

  • Workplace leadership and influence.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Building collaborative team functions.

Within this context, participants will explore:

  • Factors underlying resilience
  • Handling the stress and uncertainly of changes in the work environment.
  • Strategies for personal well-being.

The three forums will be facilitated by three highly experienced directors/senior consultants  from the PDT Consultancy group - Ian Crosby, Faye Harris and Vanessa Herbert. Each bring over 20 years experience in organisational and human resource development and have specialist experience working in educational contexts and with leaders across the Public Sector.

Nominated Audience

Classroom Teachers aspiring to move into a new leadership role or position in their school.

Trade union training leave

Members in schools and TAFE colleges are eligible for five days of paid leave per year to attend trade union training (TUT).

To comply with TUT leave requirements applicants must:

  • Submit applications to DoE/principal four weeks prior to the event.
  • Provide DoE/principal with a printed copy of the course program attached to this form.
  • Be nominated by the SSTUWA. See “nominated audience” on the attached course program.

This leave provision covers teacher relief for members attending SSTUWA TUT courses.

For school administration
When processing TUT leave applications:

  • Indicate the leave is “Miscellaneous Paid Leave” when completing an application for leave form.
  • “Trade Union Training - project code 1471” should be written under leave type.
