The SSTUWA, in partnership with TLN in Melbourne, are pleased to offer this online learning opportunity.
We have high expectations behaviourally of our students and many will just know intuitively how to behave appropriately. Students on the autism spectrum typically don’t learn these things as easily as other students. Hence, you must explicitly teach them and practice them as a class. We often assume behavioural errors to be deliberate when, in fact, especially for students on the spectrum, they may occur simply because they have not been taught what is expected and have not been reinforced when ‘getting it right’. In this course the presenter will outline approaches to teaching social and emotional skills for students on the autism spectrum.
By the end of this session you will have gained strategies to help students with ASD interact with others appropriately.
The event will be one hour in duration and consist of live delivery of content at the specified time by a presenter and a host. You will also have an opportunity to interact with other participants and engage with the presenter online. Completing this course will contribute to one hour of professional learning and a certificate will be provided at the end of the session.
TLN is a Melbourne based, not-for-profit professional development provider supported by the Australian Education Union Victoria Branch and the Independent Education Union Victoria/Tasmania Branch.
SSTUWA will be your major source of communication before the online event. Prior to the live event, SSTUWA will email you detailed instructions about how to access the online training space. TLN will then provide immediate telephone support just before the event begins on the day, and during the training if required.
