The SSTUWA, in partnership with TLN in Melbourne, are pleased to offer this online learning opportunity.
The success of STEM activities occurs when students can engage their thinking skills and pair it with creativity to problems solve and explore familiar and unfamiliar concepts. Teaching STEM can be incredibly fun and rewarding. However teachers sometimes find that incorporating STEM into the schedule can be difficult. TV game show contestant and Lego fan Ryan Evans will outline some simple strategies for using building materials in the classroom to engage students and encourage the development of experimentation and critical thinking. By focusing on how the teacher can provide thought provoking questions and appropriate prompts when completing building challenges, the method of using STEM thinking principles can become a part of the existing curriculum instead of another add on activity.
The event will be 60 minutes in duration and consist of live delivery of content at the specified time by a presenter and a host. You will also have an opportunity to interact with other participants, take a break and engage with the presenter online. Completing this course will contribute to 60 minutes of professional learning and a certificate will be provided at the end of the session.
Teacher Learning Network (TLN)
TLN is a Melbourne based, not-for-profit professional development provider supported by the Australian Education Union Victoria Branch and the Independent Education Union Victoria/Tasmania Branch. SSTUWA will be your major source of communication before the online event. Prior to the live event, SSTUWA will email you detailed instructions about how to access the online training space. TLN will then provide immediate telephone support just before the event begins on the day, and during the training if required.
