About the Forum
The State School Teachers’ Union WA (SSTUWA) continues to provide early childhood educators with opportunities to develop effective industrial and professional practice, understandings and knowledge. This forum will address the importance of an intentional play- based approach to help develop regulation and build resilience in in young learners.
About Claire Orange
The SSTUWA welcomes Claire Orange to this event. Claire is the mum of four boys, a therapist, author, media spokesperson, speaker and passionate advocate for better outcomes for children everywhere. As the co-Director of BEST Programs 4 Kids, Claire is dedicated to pursuing and providing better preventative childhood mental health and wellbeing practices.
The road to regulation and resilience is long and bumpy – and sometimes made even bumpier when a child experiences anxiety. Childhood anxiety adds detours, stop signs and pot-holes along the life-learning journey that need extra time and skill-training to overcome.
Join Claire to explore the circuitry of regulation and resilience; what gets in the way and what’s needed to build a firm foundation for every child.
Claire will encourage participants to overlay ‘the anxiety lens’ to understand how anxiety interrupts the development of necessary pathways, and to reflect and discover ways to support a child not only to cope, but to thrive.
Come together to explore how, with considered planning, our early learners can engage in challenging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences all the while, fostering resilience.

Trade union training leave - Schools
Members in schools and TAFE colleges are eligible for five days of paid leave per year to attend trade union training (TUT).
To comply with TUT leave requirements applicants must:
- Submit applications to DoE/principal four weeks prior to the event.
- Provide DoE/principal with a printed copy of the course program attached to this form.
- Be nominated by the SSTUWA. See “nominated audience” on the attached course program.
The school will not be charged for the salary of the person attending trade union training - this is covered by the DoE. However, if a relief teacher is required, this is funded through the school's one line budget.
For school administration
When processing TUT leave applications:
- Ensure staff attending training have selected TUT Leave in HRMIS.
- Project code 1471 will be generated within the payment system.
