About the course
A restorative approach is a philosophy not a program or strategy. Restorative Practice philosophy is based on a foundation of healthy relationship building. If you are looking to find out more about this and how to create a classroom based around restorative practice, then join this one-day event.
In schools conflict can occur between students, staff, parents and the community. If this conflict is not addressed effectively, the impact continues to grow. A restorative approach can be used at a low level of conflict through to more serious conflict. Restorative Practice involves students in making decisions around appropriate responses to
behaviour incidents. You will learn how to use the framework of a restorative approach including: the questioning techniques, the principles of fair process and shame theory. You will also have the time to practice the approach through a range of activities and scenarios.
On completion of the workshop participants will have:
- Reflect on their practice to enhance understanding of teaching styles, and styles of relating.
- Explore the elements of creating a safe, positive environment and how to build healthy relationships.
- Learn about the framework of a restorative approach.
- Practice implementing the approach through activities and scenarios.
