The State School Teachers' Union of WA executive is a democratically elected body which represents teachers and lecturers from Kindergartens, Primarys Schools, High Schools, Education Support Centres and TAFE. Executive usually meets once a month, but will meet more frequently as need dictates.
The current executive was elected by the SSTUWA membership in 2011. Executive members are elected for two years, with the next election due in 2013.
Elections for Executive members are conducted under Union Rule 32:

The successful candidates in the elections for Executive (Ordinary Members) and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Member shall assume office on 1st January in the year immediately following their election.
- (ii) All financial members of the Union shall be eligible to cast a vote in any election for the office of Executive (Ordinary Member). The Returning Officer for the relevant election/position calls for nominations through the Western Teacher or other authorised means. This includes nominations for elections conducted by the Union, and the WA Electoral Commission which also advertises elections it is conducting in daily newspapers.
