As the Union Representative, what do I need to do to be an effective leader?

This new 2 Day course is designed for newly elected SSTUWA Union Representatives’ and Union Branch Officers’.  The training will provide fundamental knowledge and skills that enable effective and respected union leadership in the workplace.

Training Modules to be covered:

  • The role and responsibilities of Union Representatives.
  • Navigating and implementing the agreement and award: i.e. General Agreement, Teachers’ Award and School Education Act.
  • Organisation: skills and strategies: Better manage union members and union business.
  • Conflict Resolution: Advise and manage union matters. Effectively manage disputes.
  • Negotiating at the workplace: Skills and strategies to advocate and represent.
  • Dispute Management: Organise collective and individual dispute resolution

Public education should be free and open to all to ensure non-selective and non-discriminatory access to a high quality education. Every child has a right to be educated; to develop as a human being. This basic capability should not be denied to anyone, either by design, apathy or neglect.
