SSTUWA @ Pride Parade

State School Teachers' Union of Western Australia: The Union's B-LeGITS committee, staff, members and friends represented members at the 21st annual Pride Parade on Saturday 30th October.

Approximately 15 members, along with family, marched along William and James Streets in Northbridge celebrating the Union's role in supporting LGBTI teachers and students - and equality for all.

Our banner bearers joined in the party atmosphere with alluring costumes.

In recent years, the parade has taken on a more political stance, with a major focus of this year's event being relationship equality before the law.

With one of the largest crowds in some time watching the parade, marchers enjoyed the carnival atmosphere with happy interactions, with onlookers and loud cheers from the crowd in support of the Union's participation in the event.

The response to the Union's participation was the best in a number of years.

Thanks to Senior Vice President Pat Burke, Organisers Jacquie Macliver, Bronwyn Croghan and Ross Fallen for representing the Union office and members and families for making the night a memorable one.

With CHOGM due to be held in Perth in October next year, the next Pride Parade will be in February 2012.

We look forward to participating again in 2012. See you there!

No WorkChoices WA

Troy Buswell and the State Government have appointed a former Howard Government industrial relations advocate to review Western Australian workplace laws and will soon announce changes that could affect up to 300,000 Western Australian workers' jobs and livelihoods.

For Our Future

Public schools are a foundation stone of our society. They are places of learning, of inspiration and opportunity where every Australian child can get the education they deserve.  It's the key to a strong economy, a skilled workforce and a socially cohesive society.

Save Our Schools

Public education should be free and open to all to ensure non-selective and non-discriminatory access to a high quality education. Every child has a right to be educated; to develop as a human being. This basic capability should not be denied to anyone, either by design, apathy or neglect.
