The SSTUWA’s Early Childhood Forum October 2009

sstuwa-2009-ece-forum-007Last Friday the SSTUWA held the follow-up ECE forum to the highly successful one in May, “The Way Forward for Early Childhood”.

Working around the theme:

“Belonging, Being and Becoming... The Place for Play in the Early Years’ Learning Framework,”

The 140 participants were able to listen to listen to reports and views from Professor Carmel Maloney (ECU) as well as teachers and union members, Vivienne Woodmansey (Wirrabirra PS/ EC Reference Group member) and Lousie O’Donovan, Deputy Principal, Challis ESC.

There was also a representative from the DET Office of Early Childhood, David Ansell, to inform us on the current DET ECE agenda: Implementation Plan for the National ECE Strategies, and to attempt to answer questions from a highly informed audience.

Judging by the success of this year’s 2 forums, look out for more in 2010.

No WorkChoices WA

Troy Buswell and the State Government have appointed a former Howard Government industrial relations advocate to review Western Australian workplace laws and will soon announce changes that could affect up to 300,000 Western Australian workers' jobs and livelihoods.

For Our Future

Public schools are a foundation stone of our society. They are places of learning, of inspiration and opportunity where every Australian child can get the education they deserve.  It's the key to a strong economy, a skilled workforce and a socially cohesive society.

Save Our Schools

Public education should be free and open to all to ensure non-selective and non-discriminatory access to a high quality education. Every child has a right to be educated; to develop as a human being. This basic capability should not be denied to anyone, either by design, apathy or neglect.
