Recently the Department has expanded its ‘behaviour centres’. In doing so, a number of these centres were re-classified as schools. This in some instances led to the loss of entitlements without notice to the Union. The matter was taken to EREC and arrangements have been made under an ‘administrative payment’ approach to re-instate the allowances.

WORKLOAD REVIEW

The Union and the Department have agreed in principle to the Terms of Reference for the review of workload for teachers and teaching administrators. The Union expects movement on this project shortly. A meeting is now being scheduled to discuss progress on a review of the workload confronting principals.

PERMANENCY

Recent action by a fixed term teacher through the Equal Opportunity Commission has resulted in a settlement between the Department and a member. Part of the settlement will result in the Department and the Union working to improve conditions associated with fixed term teachers on parental leave.
