General Agreement Update 30

tony-mullen-trainingUnion Reps, please ensure that you are familiar with Award Clause 61. This clause describes your role and conditions which should be available to you including paid time off to do your duties – Clause 61 (5) (a).

Workload Advisory Committees. These committees are designed to assist schools to work collaboratively to resolve workload issues. It is a requirement of the Agreement that they are set up. See General Agreement Clause 57 Workload + Schedule J for operation details.

Salary Increase. A new increment has been added to the top of the automatic teacher salary scale – Level 2.9. This delivers a salary increase of over $ 3000 to many members.

Senior Teacher & Duties. The duties of a Senior Teacher are described in Agreement Clause 20. Duties must ne negotiated and take into account workload matters. Whilst support for practicum students is a possible duty to be undertaken, it cannot be ‘mandated’.

Graduates. The SSTUWA has been successful in improving conditions for graduates over the last few Agreements. See Agreement Clause 19 for details including – graduate allowance [1st and 2nd year]; graduate release [1st year]; Professional learning [1st and 2nd year]. Members will be assisted by Union Reps.

District Allowances. Recent district allowances negotiated by the CSA for the public sector are applicable to SSTUWA members under the ‘locality allowance’ clause. The SSTUWA has been in discussion with the Department to ensure allowances have been processes and back paid. There have been some changes which include changes in entitlements to the ‘locality allowance’. Discussions are continuing.

2008 General Agreement & Teachers’ Award. Members are reminded to be familiar with these two documents. Significant efforts are made through negotiations to improve your conditions and then to ensure the conditions are complied with. Please work within the terms of these two documents.

No WorkChoices WA

Troy Buswell and the State Government have appointed a former Howard Government industrial relations advocate to review Western Australian workplace laws and will soon announce changes that could affect up to 300,000 Western Australian workers' jobs and livelihoods.

For Our Future

Public schools are a foundation stone of our society. They are places of learning, of inspiration and opportunity where every Australian child can get the education they deserve.  It's the key to a strong economy, a skilled workforce and a socially cohesive society.

Save Our Schools

Public education should be free and open to all to ensure non-selective and non-discriminatory access to a high quality education. Every child has a right to be educated; to develop as a human being. This basic capability should not be denied to anyone, either by design, apathy or neglect.
