Relief Teachers Newsletter Term 3 - 2008

I hope you have had a relaxing term break. This is the third newsletter for 2008. In this newsletter: New SSTUWA Website, Arbitration, Superannuation and Relief Teachers, Professional Development and Relief Teachers Committee Meeting dates in 2008.

New SSTUWA Website

www.sstuwa.org

All members need to register to access the Member Section of the new website. If you encounter any problems contact the web administrator.

The latest information from the Union, numbered EBA updates, which are numbered, can be found on the right hand side of the home page. These are in the public domain and keep members up to date.

As a member of SSTUWA you are entitled to a range of discounts on products and services at quality retailers and service providers throughout Western Australia. Remember to show your union card and receive extra benefits from your SSTUWA membership. The Member Benefits booklet can be found under the Services section of the new web site.

We’re in a transition phase with the new website, with content still being added. The information contained on the old website www.sstuwa.org.au , which is still active, is being moved over to the new site.

Arbitration

DET’s proposed Enterprise Order can be accessed on the Union website. You can access the document from the front page and member lounge page. The Union’s proposed Enterprise Order will be on the web site when lodged in the Commission.

Superannuation and Relief Teachers

Several relief teachers have informed me that they have begun salary sacrificing a percentage amount from their pay. If you are with GESB you are able to make a regular percentage contribution from your pay.

www.gesb.com.au

Go to:

  • Shortcuts, Brochures & forms
  • Your Complete Guide to GESB Super- product Information Booklet
  • +Some form

You will need to fill out the +Some form, putting a percentage amount in Section 2. In a covering letter include your DET number and that you are a relief teacher.

Post to:
Department of Education and Training

No WorkChoices WA

Troy Buswell and the State Government have appointed a former Howard Government industrial relations advocate to review Western Australian workplace laws and will soon announce changes that could affect up to 300,000 Western Australian workers' jobs and livelihoods.

For Our Future

Public schools are a foundation stone of our society. They are places of learning, of inspiration and opportunity where every Australian child can get the education they deserve.  It's the key to a strong economy, a skilled workforce and a socially cohesive society.

Save Our Schools

Public education should be free and open to all to ensure non-selective and non-discriminatory access to a high quality education. Every child has a right to be educated; to develop as a human being. This basic capability should not be denied to anyone, either by design, apathy or neglect.
