Relief Teachers Newsletter 2007 - Term 4

It has been decided to publish a newsletter that specifically highlights information for Relief Teachers.  This is part of the process of communicating up coming union events and sharing information to and between relief teachers.  I am hoping to be able to send out a regular newsletter . This newsletter will contain feedback about what has happened or is happening with the Relief Teachers committee, as well as providing opportunity for other information relevant to Relief Teachers. Contributions from Relief Teachers are always welcome, and can be emailed to me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

For those teachers in the school’s sector the Union has been involved in ongoing discussions with DET in regards to:

Clause 13.5 Casual Employment – accrual of 200 days–
Calculation of the two hundred days (200) for the purpose of progression to the next salary increment will commence from 1 January 2007. This clause is now effective from Friday 4th August 2006.

Work which counts towards the accrual of 200 days worked:
  • 1. Relief of a time fraction 0.5 or greater count as one day, however a maximum
  • of one day for any day worked.
  • 2.  Employment during the course of a year where there is a mixture of relief as a causal and fixed term appointments as a teacher: All days count towards the 200: however a maximum of one day for any day worked.
The progression, after the 200 days, to the next pay increment should be automatic.. If you have any queries contact DET Labour Relations, Petra Cameron / Stuart Brown ph 9264 5827.

No WorkChoices WA

Troy Buswell and the State Government have appointed a former Howard Government industrial relations advocate to review Western Australian workplace laws and will soon announce changes that could affect up to 300,000 Western Australian workers' jobs and livelihoods.

For Our Future

Public schools are a foundation stone of our society. They are places of learning, of inspiration and opportunity where every Australian child can get the education they deserve.  It's the key to a strong economy, a skilled workforce and a socially cohesive society.

Save Our Schools

Public education should be free and open to all to ensure non-selective and non-discriminatory access to a high quality education. Every child has a right to be educated; to develop as a human being. This basic capability should not be denied to anyone, either by design, apathy or neglect.
