School Leaders Update

school-leaderThe letter sent to every principal from the Director General re ‘NOTIFICATION OF DELEGATED OR SUBDELEGATED AUTHORITY TO EXERCISE A POWER OR FUNCTION’, is not to be ignored. I encourage all of you to be aware of the content.

The DoE spreadsheet, currently in its preliminary format, is a reference to the delegation of powers sub delegated to the principal. Please note the special delegation of powers for IPS principals.

Training will be in place shortly as the Regional Executive Directors are currently undergoing the process, Principals are next. I have attached here the training schedule and a copy of the Delegation of Authority spreadsheet.

The material is being developed by the Governance Unit in response to the 2009 Department of Education Review. The intent, as expressed by the representatives of the unit, is to improve transparency and accountability in the way the DoE informs principals of their power under the Act.

As the accountability trail continues remember your colleagues. Also being promoted in ‘ruokay- are you okay-‘ http://www.www.ruokday.com.au/

‘In these times of dramatic change, ERG visits and daily challenges of school leadership, where school leaders carry an ever growing busy load, maybe we need to take time to look after each other….there might be a colleague on your site or at the next school that would value someone asking RUOK?  Take a look at the site via this link and let’s look after each other…..’

Edd Black, Chair, School Leaders’ Council.  Acknowledgements also to Clive Emby.

FYI: THE POWER, POLITICS, PITFALLS & POTENTIAL OF SURVEYS OF PARENTS, STAFF & STUDENTS.

The BIG issue: Can MySchool satisfaction surveys be used for SCHOOL ACCOUNTABILITY?

The answer is NO -- do you want to know why?

No WorkChoices WA

Troy Buswell and the State Government have appointed a former Howard Government industrial relations advocate to review Western Australian workplace laws and will soon announce changes that could affect up to 300,000 Western Australian workers' jobs and livelihoods.

For Our Future

Public schools are a foundation stone of our society. They are places of learning, of inspiration and opportunity where every Australian child can get the education they deserve.  It's the key to a strong economy, a skilled workforce and a socially cohesive society.

Save Our Schools

Public education should be free and open to all to ensure non-selective and non-discriminatory access to a high quality education. Every child has a right to be educated; to develop as a human being. This basic capability should not be denied to anyone, either by design, apathy or neglect.
