While the Australian Education Union welcomes the announcement by the Gillard Government that it will be taking a proposal to guarantee funding to students studying up to a certificate three at the next CoAG meeting in March, the Government must provide detail of the additional funds it will provide to support such an initiative. The AEU encourages states and territories to join the Federal Government in funding additional training for the many thousands of young Australians who could benefit from access to vocational education.
There is a vacancy for the following position: The Australian Education Union Western Australian (WA) Branch National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Committee (TAFE Division) Member (2011/2695). The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC)is managing this election. Below is the election notice from the AEC.

The TAFE Committee considered a Summary of Initiatives + 11% salary over three years received from the Department on the 29 November 2011 and recommended it for acceptance. The Union has now proceeded on behalf of TAFE members to establish an ‘in-principle agreement’ with the Department and industrial action has been lifted.
Various TAFE Branches have held meetings and directed their members to undertake specific actions in support of their claim.
As “in principle” agreement has now been reached, all industrial action is to cease immediately.
Other branches are still to meet on this matter. The actions the branches who have met are listed below.
There are two major issues which the employers are unwilling to take off the table.
1. Changes to your ARD conditions – Amendment 1
“Remove the distinction between PA and ARD time, creating a „non-lecturing? category of time (16.5 hours). The use of this time would be negotiated between lecturer and manager. Time worked off campus would be by agreement between lecturer and manager”.
