SSTUWA Says NO To Trade Offs in TAFE Offer

tafe-001A 2nd Offer has recently been received from the Department.

Key aspects of this proposal have been rejected by TAFE Committee. Further, TAFE Committee has recommended to Executive a range of industrial actions.

These have been endorsed. Branches moving to industrial action will do so in consultation with the Union office.

On Thursday 20th October TAFE Committee met at Solidarity Park (opposite Parliament House) to finalise member action in support of a 2nd Offer.

TAFE Committee and Executive endorsed the following recommendations:

On the basis of branch feedback, TAFE Committee rejects amendment 1 of the second offer, that is, the combining of ARD and PA time and the need to negotiate ARD off campus time, in its entirety. Any change in this area will compromise the quality of delivery and educational outcomes. It will also result in an increase in workload and impact negatively on the health and wellbeing of lecturers.

On the basis of branch feedback, TAFE Committee will not accept any reduction that further limits access to permanent employment for TAFE lecturers. Further, TAFE Committee condemns this government, for NOT improving, but rather, diminishing TAFE lecturers access to permanent employment.

On the basis of branch feedback, TAFE Committee endorses branches to take staggered industrial action, from the actions listed below, in support of recommendations 1 and 2. Branches will consult with the Union office in determining the specific action, its date and duration.

Action list, including but not limited to:

  • Stop work meetings
  • Ban overtime on a chosen week
  • Forward lecturers’ phone calls to administration
  • Respond to emails only in Professional Activities time
  • Ban the use of ASRI
  • Members to complete ONLY 4.5 hours of Professional Activities per week (FHA 6 hours)
  • Stop moderating assessments
  • Mass stop work and march to Parliament House
  • Work to rule
  • Propose action during CHOGM eg stop work, march
  • Ban lecturers’ portal
  • Ban lunchtime meetings

No WorkChoices WA

Troy Buswell and the State Government have appointed a former Howard Government industrial relations advocate to review Western Australian workplace laws and will soon announce changes that could affect up to 300,000 Western Australian workers' jobs and livelihoods.

For Our Future

Public schools are a foundation stone of our society. They are places of learning, of inspiration and opportunity where every Australian child can get the education they deserve.  It's the key to a strong economy, a skilled workforce and a socially cohesive society.

Save Our Schools

Public education should be free and open to all to ensure non-selective and non-discriminatory access to a high quality education. Every child has a right to be educated; to develop as a human being. This basic capability should not be denied to anyone, either by design, apathy or neglect.
