State Council consists of the President, Senior Vice President, Vice President, General Secretary, Ordinary Executive Members and elected delegates from each of the 20 districts. TAFE Colleges are included within the districts. State Council delegates are nominated by two financial members of the same district as the delegate, and elected by SSTUWA members in that district, if an election is necessary.
November 2011 State Council endorsed a change to the SSTUWA District structure away from the traditional alignment with the Department of Education districts towards a structure which is independent of any Department configuration.
The State School Teachers Union of Western Australia and WACOT Proudly announce this years winner of the $3000 Mentor Excellence Award. The Department of Education’s recent unilateral changes to its housing policy have raised grave concerns as to housing entitlements of members working in regional areas. These changes are: a teacher needs to work 0.5 or more to access GROH and a property must be vacated if a teacher is taking 20 days LWOP (this does not include paid sick leave or paid parental leave).
Have your circumstances changed recently? Quite often we learn by accident that someone has moved schools, gone on Leave Without Pay (LWOP) or changed their work fraction, and we have to chase them up to find out the new details. Invariably, their response is, “I thought the department would have told you.” Unfortunately they can't tell us!
