2012 State Council & Committees Nominations Open

State Council consists of the President, Senior Vice President, Vice President, General Secretary, Ordinary Executive Members and elected delegates from each of the 20 districts. TAFE Colleges are included within the districts. State Council delegates are nominated by two financial members of the same district as the delegate, and elected by SSTUWA members in that district, if an election is necessary.

New SSTUWA District Structure

sstuwa-state-council-june-2011November 2011 State Council endorsed a change to the SSTUWA District structure away from the traditional alignment with the Department of Education districts towards a structure which is independent of any Department configuration.

The new structure is based on state electorates and comprises groupings of three electorates per district, with one district of two electorates.

SSTUWA Mentor Excellence Award Winner

sstuwa-wacot-award-2011The State School Teachers Union of Western Australia and WACOT Proudly announce this years winner of the $3000 Mentor Excellence Award. Sarah Dyson east Narrogin Primary won the award for her oustdanding efforts to ensure new teachers at her school begin their career with the best guidance possible.

SSTUWA & DOE REACH AN ‘IN-PRINCIPLE’ AGREEMENT

After nine months of negotiations the SSTUWA Executive has endorsed an ‘in-principle’ Agreement. This occurred at a Special Executive meeting on Thursday 8 December 2012. The ‘in-principle’ Agreement includes: 12% in salary over three years with an initial increase of 3.75% from the 22 December 2011 pay period and further increases of 4% and 4.25%;

Housing For Country Employees

sstuwa-north-west-houseThe Department of Education’s recent unilateral changes to its housing policy have raised grave concerns as to housing entitlements of members working in regional areas. These changes are: a teacher needs to work 0.5 or more to access GROH and a property must be vacated if a teacher is taking 20 days LWOP (this does not include paid sick leave or paid parental leave).

Make Sure You're Up To Date!

Quite often we learn by accident that someone has moved schools, gone on Leave Without Pay (LWOP) or changed their work fraction, and we have to chase them up to find out the new details.  Invariably, their response is, “I thought the department would have told you.” Unfortunately they can't tell us!

State Council November 2011

SSTUWA State CouncilThe 35th State Council was held over the weekend of the 19/20 November 2011. To the delight and achievement of all, the council was able to manage the business of the whole agenda. Two key note speakers attended. Mr Trevor Cobbold, founder of the Save Our Schools (www.saveourschools.org.au) website spoke on the current situation with regard to federal schools funding. Mr Ben Wyatt, shadow spokesperson for education, attended on Sunday to address council and answer questions.

Housing for Country Employees Policy (April 2011)

kalImportant update for part-time workers!

Under recent changes the Department now requires a work fraction of 0.5 full-time equivalent (FTE) to access GROH housing. This has caused numerous inquiries from Union members concerned about the equity impact of the change.

Danielle Stitfall Attends Abilympics - Korea

sstuwa-danielle-2011Congratulations SSTUWA Staff Member Danielle Stitfall who attended the 8th International Abilympics at Olympic Park, Seoul Korea from September 25 to 30. Like the Olympics and Paralympics, these competitions are held on an International level every four years. State and National competitions are held and depending on the standard reached, competitors are selected for this international event.

Save Our Schools

Public education should be free and open to all to ensure non-selective and non-discriminatory access to a high quality education. Every child has a right to be educated; to develop as a human being. This basic capability should not be denied to anyone, either by design, apathy or neglect.
