Hats off to teachers!
Celebrating World Teachers' Day

On Friday 31 October, educators across Australia are celebrated for the incredible work they do every day. This is your day – a moment to pause, reflect and feel appreciated for the impact you make in classrooms, staffrooms and communities.
While World Teachers’ Day is celebrated internationally on 5 October, Australia observes it later to ensure it falls during the school term so students, teachers and communities can celebrate in person. The theme, Hats Off to Teachers, is a joyful and symbolic way to honour your dedication, expertise and influence. Whether you’re in a classroom, supporting students or mentoring fellow educators, this day is about you and the difference you make.
The Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) has created a free celebration kit to help schools and educators mark the occasion. It includes printable props, thank you cards, cupcake wraps and more – perfect for classroom activities and staffroom events. Find it at wtd.edu.au
You’re invited to post a selfie in your favourite hat using #WorldTeachersDay2025 and tag @aitsl and @sstuwa – or email us your pics at editor@sstuwa.org.au It’s a simple gesture that carries a powerful message: your work matters.
World Teachers’ Day is more than a moment of recognition; it’s a reminder of the vital role you play in shaping futures. Whether you’re guiding early learners, supporting teens through adolescence, or helping students find their voice, your work builds the foundation of our society while fostering resilience, curiosity and confidence.
In recent years, you’ve supported students through uncertainty and adapted to ever-changing demands, from wellbeing challenges to evolving classroom needs. Through it all, you’ve remained a steady, compassionate presence in your students’ lives. World Teachers’ Day is a chance to acknowledge that commitment and to highlight the essential role teachers play in helping young people thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
This day is also a chance to reflect on your own journey. Whether you’re just starting out or have decades of experience, World Teachers’ Day is a moment to connect with colleagues, celebrate your achievements and feel proud of the profession you’ve chosen – a profession that changes lives.
So this 31 October, take a moment to celebrate yourself and your peers. Wear a hat, share a smile and know that across Australia, people are tipping their hats to you.
Because behind every confident learner is a teacher who made a difference, and that teacher is you.
