This inspiring half-day course will show teachers how to use quality children’s literature to engage children in ‘close’ reading and writing. Exposure to high quality children’s literature, focusing on what successful writers and illustrators do, can support critical and creative thinking and contribute to students thinking and writing. The course will provide a range of effective, evidence-based strategies to deepen student’s understanding and use of language, sentence structure and context in all three strands of the English Curriculum. You will explore a range of practical activities including using lists for brainstorming, utilizing drama and the development of philosophical questioning as means to develop written and oral narratives.
