The SSTUWA Women's Conference is an opportunity for members who identify as female within our union to come together. The focus for this conference is based on the United Nations International Women's Day theme, Balance the Scales.
Our Balance the Scales conference is an opportunity to support the promise that every woman and girl, regardless of background or identity, should be safe, heard, and free to shape their own lives.
In 2026, too many across Australia and the world are still denied that fair go. Discriminatory laws, policies, and practices persist. Gender-based violence remains widespread, and structural barriers block too many from seeking or receiving justice.
Join our event to support this promise and be inspired by a range of speakers.
Start your conference day by meeting Tracey Cave the founder and CEO of Sister Project- Ellenbrook. With a rich background in teaching and community work, Tracey has always been driven by a passion for working with and finding ways to empower women. Her journey as a migrant living in Japan has given her a unique insight into the challenges and barriers women face when integrating into a new culture. Being married to a West African man for over 20 years has also enriched her understanding of living and raising kids in a mixed culture and the complexities of establishing oneself in Australia.
Since its establishment in 2019, Tracey has grown the Sister Project from a small community gathering into a multi-program initiative supporting more than 600 women from over 30 cultural backgrounds.
Sister Project is supported by a small team and a strong volunteer network. Tracey's leadership is underpinned by a belief that when women are supported to thrive, entire families and communities’ benefit.
Jonelle Rafols, SSTUWA Senior Vice-President, will facilitate a brief update on the work of the SSTUWA to support women. Kari Pnacek, Unions WA Assistant Secretary, and Janette Bedwell, SSTUWA Women's Organiser, will provide briefings around important programs and campaigns.
Hear from the Minister regarding an update on the achievements of WA's Plan for Gender Equality, a 10-year whole-of-government roadmap launched in March 2020 to drive meaningful, systemic change to achieve gender equality.
The Minister will outline the significant investment for the program this year demonstrating the Cook Government's commitment to supporting more initiatives and increasing resourcing to deliver better outcomes for WA women and girls.
Join Senior Officers to hear an update on the EBA and the progress being made during the bargaining progress.
Sharmila Nagar (Vice President) will offer information for those participants for Schools and Jonelle Rafols (Senior Vice President) will speak with TAFE members around the TAFE EBA.
Bronwen Sciortino is an International Author and Simplicity Expert who spent almost two decades as a high powered, award winning executive before experiencing a life changing event that forced her to stop and ask the question 'What if there's a better way to live?' Finish your conference day focusing on balancing your own scales. Bronwen will share her story and guide you through the noise that modern life brings. She will gently challenge some outdated beliefs creating space for healthier thinking. During this practical session you will learn and use some practical tools that will create immediate momentum.
