Join us for a light lunch anytime from 12 noon. Forum will commence at 12.45pm
The State School Teachers' Union of WA (SSTUWA) continues to provide members with opportunities to develop effective industrial and professional practice, understandings and knowledge.
The SSTUWA invites school leaders, teachers K-12 and TAFE lecturers to join the afternoon forum to explore how to further support climate action and sustainability in our workplaces.
The Australian curriculum includes the following statement about the importance of teaching about sustainability:
'Education for sustainability develops the knowledge, skills, values and world views necessary for people to act ways that contribute to more sustainable patterns of living. It enables individuals and communities to reflect on ways of interpreting and engaging with the world. Sustainability education is future-oriented, focusing on protecting environments and creating a more ecologically and socially just world through informed action.'
In this forum, you will consider current practices of your school or college, discuss resources and teaching approaches that will support climate change and sustainability. You will hear from Jordan Rowand from The Australian Youth Climate Coalition (AYCC) who will provide positive and proactive solutions to building sustainable practices in your school/college.
Over the last seven years, Jordan Rowand has been working with young Australians to lead global solutions in Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia. With a degree in Global Studies and Sustainability, Jordan has spent the last couple of years working at Clean State on Western Australian climate solutions but has recently moved to the City of Vincent's waste education team. They remain a passionate WA state campaigner and organiser at the Australian Youth Climate Coalition.
