This newly developed course is designed for all TAFE Members including elected TAFE Representatives, Deputy Representatives and elected TAFE Committee Members. The course will outline the Employment Law framework and will include information around Common Law, Legislation, Awards and Agreements and where TAFE sits in the Industrial Relations system.
The presenters will unpack the important topic of Dealing with Disputes, including your role as an elected delegate. This will include: Getting all the information; Identifying the issues and possible solutions; distinguishing between breach of rights and unfairness; how to locate and read the TAFE industrial instruments;and when and how to refer to the TAFE Organiser, JCC and STERC.
You will learn what the SSTUWA Legal Services team do and learn including the role of Advocates and Case Managers. Know what legal services the SSTUWA offers to members and how to access it.
The SSTUWA Work Health and Safety Organiser will outline the role of a Union Rep within work health and safety in and how the Union supports branches with any WHS issues.

SSTUWA may fund travel and accommodation expenses for currently elected representatives outside the metropolitan area. Each regional application will be assessed by the Education and Training Centre Coordinator for funding approval. All flight and accommodation bookings will be made by the SSTUWA upon approval of your travel request. We will be in contact with you once the event has been confirmed based on the minimum number requirements. Please do not book your own flights.
