This inspiring half-day course will show you how to use quality children’s literature to engage children in ‘close’ reading and writing. Exposure to high quality children’s literature, focusing on what successful writers and illustrators do, can support critical and creative thinking and contribute to students thinking and writing. The course will focus on anchor texts, both word and visual. Ron will provide a range of effective, evidence-based strategies to deepen student’s understanding and use of language, sentence structure and context in all three strands of the English Curriculum. You will explore a range of practical activities to support you to use quality children's literature to explicitly engage students and encourage creativity.
