About the course
As part of the SSTUWA’s commitment to making schools safer workplaces for staff we are pleased to continue to offer this high-impact, high-demand training event throughout 2020.
This one-day skills based program is suitable for any person working in an education environment. You will learn valuable skills that will ensure you have the confidence to keep you and your students safe in the event of a verbal or physical encounter while at work. This course has been specifically designed to give you the tools needed to deal with a wide range of incidents that may occur in an education setting. It is a practical, fast-paced course providing opportunity to build knowledge, but also develop and practice new skills in meaningful scenarios.
This one-day course is aimed at low-risk settings.
There will be an additional, optional follow-up course available at a later date.
Outcomes
During this one-day course participants will learn how to reduce the threat of physical violence and harm through:
- What you can and can’t do.
- Behaviour management - How and why people do what they do.
- Identify and de-escalation - using verbal demands and non-physical strategies.
- Keeping yourself safe from harm and injury.
- Use of soft touch techniques to guide and escort safely.
- Recording and reporting.
Safety, Hygiene and Social Distancing
The SSTUWA is committed to following all up-to-date safety and health regulations related to COVID 19 throughout these training events.
We request that participants bring their own mug for use at training and that any participant not feeling well or showing fever, cough or flu-like symptoms cancel their registration and not attend.
