About the course
We know that phonological awareness (PA) skills are crucial for literacy success. But, are you still looking for an effective approach that is not isolated or scripted but still explicit?
Join Carey Rogers to learn how to plan and implement an effective PA and graphophonics program in your classroom. Learn what early readers need to know, and how it can be taught in meaningful contexts. The session
will commence with an overview of all areas of speech and language placing phonological awareness into the greater context of literacy.
Carey will present a range of integrated activities and strategies for developing PA knowledge and skills. You will have the opportunity to explore a range of resources to support PA, and will take home a USB full of great activities to support the implementation of a highly effective PA program.
By the end of the session participants will develop skills, knowledge and strategies for effectively teaching of the following elements:
- Recognising and generating rhymes.
- Listening for sounds in words.
- Segmenting words into sounds.
- Linking letters with regular sounds.
- Representing sounds heard in words with letters.
- Recognising that the same letter represents different sounds.
