About the course

As part of the SSTUWA’s commitment to making schools safer workplaces for staff we are pleased to continue to offer this high-impact, high-demand training event throughout 2021.

This one-day skills based course is suitable for any person working in an education environment.  You will learn valuable skills that will ensure you have the confidence to keep you and your students safe in the event of a verbal or physical encounter while at work.

This course has been specifically designed to give you the tools needed to deal with a wide range of incidents that may occur in low-risk education settings. It is a practical, fast-paced course providing opportunity to build knowledge, but also develop and practice new skills in meaningful scenarios.

There will be an additional, optional follow-up course available at a later date.

During this one-day course participants will learn how to reduce the threat of physical violence and harm through:

  • What you can and can’t do.
  • Behaviour management - How and why people do what they do.
  • Identify and de-escalation - using verbal demands and non-physical strategies.
  • Keeping yourself safe from harm and injury.
  • Use of soft touch techniques to guide and escort safely.
