SSTUWA invites Union Representatives, OSH Representatives and School Leaders to this one-day event designed to focus on preventing and managing violent and aggressive behaviours directed at school staff. This event is a perfect follow-up or supplement to the Term Two KOWS training provided through the DoE.
The day will be broken into two parts:
Part One:
During the morning session a senior inspector from Worksafe will provide information on the provisions of the safety legislation that are relevant to the hazard of violent behaviour in the workplace, the actions to take to enforce the legislation and their experience in investigating complaints or injuries sustained by school staff.
They will also provide advice on assessing risk, investigating incidents and share some control strategies.
Part Two:
The afternoon session will focus on specific school preventative strategies and appropriate responses to incidents of violence and aggression from community members and students. You will discuss how to build a safe school community and engage with the police where criminal activity has taken place. The requirements and limitations of the Education Act and Departmental policy/procedures will also be examined.
