The SSTUWA, in partnership with TLN in Melbourne, are pleased to offer this online learning opportunity.
This session brings together the teaching strategy of metacognition with the emerging research on neuroscience. In its simplest form metacognition teaches students about their own thinking and their own learning and thereby promotes greater control over their own learning. Teachers who are informed about the research on neuroscience develop a more complex understanding of the influences on student learning. Those teachers are better placed to support all students to become independent learners, from those who have experienced trauma through to gifted students.
This full day session includes detailed input on neuroscience and metacognition. It draws on the practical experience of a leading teacher who has successfully implemented these approaches in their classroom and includes substantial discussion, exploration and question time.
The aim for the session is that you will leave with new resources and/or an implementation plan for your classroom. These full day sessions are practical and information rich and will make a substantial contribution to your performance and development as a teacher.
The event will be five-hours in duration and consist of live delivery of content at the specified time by a presenter and a host. You will also have an opportunity to interact with other participants, take a break and engage with the presenter online. Completing this course will contribute to five-hours of professional learning and a certificate will be provided at the end of the session.
TLN is a Melbourne based, not-for-profit professional development provider supported by the Australian Education Union Victoria Branch and the Independent Education Union Victoria/Tasmania Branch. SSTUWA will be your major source of communication before the online event. Prior to the live event, SSTUWA will email you detailed instructions about how to access the online training space. TLN will then provide immediate telephone support just before the event begins on the day, and during the training if required.

We wish to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we live and work. We wish to pay respect to their Elders - past, present and future - and acknowledge the important role all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people continue to play within Australia. We stand in solidarity.
